Devon Tread 1 Watch: Contains Four Compact Microstep Motors - - A Unique Wath With Price Tag of Around $22,000
Having a watch is somewhat or a rarity anymore as most of us have cell phones to check the time. There are a still some people out there that would feel naked without a timepiece to sit upon their wrist. If you are one of those few, you know how difficult it can be to find an interesting watch. Even harder still is to find one that is unique. Well, the search for individuality is over, but it comes with a price tag of around $22,000.
While you’re catching your breath and trying to figure out how many other things you could buy with that money, you might want to hear why it has a phenomenal price. This Devon Tread 1 Watch contains four compact microstep motors that power several glass-nylon belts that will turn to give you the date and time. The exasperating amount of time that went into this wristwatch likely makes the price tag feasible enough already, but there is still more to it. The steel case around this complex design is scratch-resistant bulletproof polycarbonate. It may be a tad pricey…but it’s a lot more interesting than something that is simply dipped in gold and covered in Swarovski crystals.

Self Power Generating Watch by Ventura to be Unveiled at BaselWorld 2011
Converting one kind of energy to another leads to various applications and has given birth to many inventions and innovations. Watches have been using kinetic energy or the movement of the hand of the wearer to power the mechanical movement. We take it for granted now as it has been used by watch makers for ages. But Ventura, a watchmaker has stretched this concept further to convert the kinetic energy to electrical energy to power the LCD display of the new watch they have designed.
The new timepiece designed by Ventura is called the SPARC MGS and has mechanisms incorporated in it that uses the movement of the wearer’s hand to generate electric power for its LCD display and other digital bits. The timepiece based on a new concept is set to be unveiled at BaselWorld 2011 in a few weeks from now. The watch is sure to grab the attention of the visitors there for the new concept that has been incorporated in the mechanism.
Ventura has installed an oscillating mass just above the display of the watch that will turn on an average about 4,000 times in a day. These movements help to tension a spring through a set of connecting gears. The spring when fully tensioned will transfer its force to a micro generator that will produce electricity to keep the electronic bits running. To encourage the movement of the wearer’s wrist an EasySkroll system has been incorporated in the watch that allows the wearer to navigate the UI by simply moving the wrist.

Phosphor Reveal: First Mechanical Digital Watch - - Tells You Time With the Movement od Crystals (Video)
Though there may be a lot of interesting watches out there, I’ve got to say that I like this one the best. Mainly because it makes clicky noises when the time changes, but it has a really neat concept.
The American watch brand Phosphor has a wristwatch out named the Phosphor Reveal, and is the first mechanical digital watch that uses Micro-Magnetic Mechanical Digital technology. That’s likely a giant tongue twister made up by the company, but it still sounds pretty neat.
This watch is both for the ladies and the gents as it has colors ranging from pink and white to black and gray. Using Swarovski crystals and an electrical pulse, the crystals will turn on their side to “reveal” themselves or disappear. Thus giving you the time of day. It is an awfully expensive timepiece seeing as its $199 and only at selected retailers, but I’d still buy it just to listen to the sounds it makes when the crystals turn. Time has never been more interesting and sparkly.

Art du Temps: Amazing Wall Clock Design by Illi and Julien Ado Created for An Agency Called Design by 8
This wall clock is not a clock on the wall but the entire wall is a clock. It has the best Swiss watch technology and it is mechanical but the way it works is what makes it unique and amazing. It is wonderful to just watch the clock function and tell the time when you ask. Putting together this elaborate clock is expensive but it will soon go in for commercial production and will not remain a mere concept prototype.
Art du Temps is a design by Illi and Julien Ado created for an agency called Design by 8. The design is basically rectangular board with lot of squares on it. These squares move up and down to the beat of the second to show that the clock is working. The movement of the squares does not follow a pattern by but happens randomly. When you want to know the time you simply ask. You can do it with a remote device or through voice command.
What follows is the most interesting part. The squares move around like a choreographed ballet and finally display a digital clock, but one that uses physical pieces. It is called “mechanical digital hours”. Now that the production plan for the clock is in place the price of the final product has been firmed and it will cost you around 90,000 Swiss francs. They will start taking orders from March 2011. The delivery of first pieces will start from fall/winter of 2011. The wait would be worth it.

Roger Dubuis King Square Hearts Tourbillon Watch - - Valentine’s Day Special Limited Edition Watch With 28 Pieces Only - -
This is a Valentine’s Day special watch from Roger Dubuis. This is a limited edition release and only 28 pieces will be made. One of the reasons for this small quantity could be that each of this watch will cost a fortune and even if you are able to afford it you might be left with the feeling that you have been short-changed. Roger Dubuis King Square Hearts Tourbillon Watch, never the less is beautiful and is created with great care and perfection.
The case of the watch is made from 18k white gold. It is square and 36mm wide. The case is decorated with diamonds all over. The movement of the watch is similar to the men’s version as it is thoroughly skeletonized with an assortment of heart shaped motifs. The movement has been made in-house by Roger Dubuis. Two of the motifs have pink colored synthetic sapphire crystals to emphasize the shapes.
The watch has a manually wound movement. There is a flange ring around the periphery of the dial with indicators for hour and minutes. The hour indicators are done with rubies. The red satin strap matches very well with the watch. The price has not been indicated as yet but is expected to be in six figures that may make you blush a color matching with the watch.

Farfalla (Butterfly) Watches Collection From Italian Company Artya Watches - - Colourful Butterfly Wings Under a Sapphire Crystal to Tell You Time
Lepidopterists are those guys who collect and preserve moths and butterflies under glass for easy observation. Artya watches have taken this hobby and beautifully incorporated it into their watches. Sounds interesting, right! They have taken the wings from butterflies and made it into a colourful collage under a sapphire crystal. No harm was done to these lovely insects as all were already post mortem. This collection is called the Farfalla Collection, Farfalla meaning butterfly in Italian.
Artya developed a special technique to create this butterfly watch. Clients can pick out the palette that they want. The watch obviously doesn’t scream out that its dial is made up of butterfly wings but then it can be a great conversation maker. All of the watches are handmade and are intended for both men and women. These one-of-a-kind watches are placed in equally one-of-a-kind “Coup de foudre” cases. The Farfalla watches have a self winding movement and has been manufactured entirely in Switzerland.
They have a power reserve of 42 hours, a steel case and 2 years guarantee. This watch does not come with an in-your-face kind of glam, but a subtle beauty and oodles of creativity. If you happen to be a Lepidopterist then it would definitely be the watch for you, and if you don’t have this particular hobby then I am sure you would still love to have a watch this unique.

Piaget Emperador Coussin Tourbillon Automatic Ultra Thin Watch to be Showcased at Salon Internationale de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) 2011, Geneva Switzerland
The Salon Internationale de la Haute Horlogerie is the world’s largest and most prestigious watch show. The SIHH 2011 will take place this month in Geneva Switzerland. The show will see 19 of the world’s greatest luxury brands unveil their newest watches. It is perhaps the biggest event for the watch industry and the luxury brands are geared up to present their best and the latest at the show.
Traditionally most of the brands participating in the SIHH pre release one or two of their watches in the weeks leading up to the big show. This time, though, a couple of the brands have not shown their hand yet. Piaget has pre-released their Piaget Emperador Coussin Tourbillon Automatic Ultra Thin which has been well appreciated by the experts and analysts of the trade and the consumers as well.
The new watch comes in a 46.5mm case made of white or pink gold, featuring new manufacture Caliber 1270p. The look of the watch, its craftsmanship and the precision technology that backs up its performance is all of the highest order. The newest watch from Piaget has 5.5mm thick, automatic, tourbillon, with a front-facing micro-rotor. It is bound to be amongst the front runners for recognition at the Geneva show.
Edox Iceman 1: Limited Edition Watch With a Price-tag of $2,250 - - Functional and Stylish Watch in Recognition of Christian Redl
Edox has brought out a watch called Edox Iceman 1 in recognition of the diver Christian Redl who boats of diving 100 meters under water, and that too ice cold water! Yikes! This feat has led him to get the nickname of Iceman. That explains the Iceman bit of the name of the timepiece. Plus the Iceman 1 bit probably means that there are more in store. This limited edition watch is both functional and stylish.
The casing is in polished black PVD, with the base slightly wider than the top. The repeating arrow style texture on the rotating diver’s style bezel looks great. With its lovely orange accents, it becomes very easy to read the bezel. The watch dial is done in carbon fiber. Quite appropriately, the water resistance is mindblowing with a 1000 metre resistance. The strap has been made with black rubber to match with the case.
It has a Swiss ETA 2895 automatic movement with a subsidiary seconds dial. Such diver watches usually aren’t all too sexy, and this one hasn’t really changed that trend. But I guess Edox wanted the timepiece to look brute, and not too pretty. The Iceman 1 is limited to just 600 pieces and comes with a price-tag of $2,550.

17 International Awards For Lange & Sohne As The Company Celebrates Its 165th Anniversary
The year 2010 is gone but it was a good year for Lange & Sohne, well known for their designer watches. In fact they were celebrating their 165th anniversary during the year and were elated to have scooped a phenomenal seventeen international awards in the course of 2010. The watchmaker has reaffirmed its position after the recognition it received at different award functions.
Lange Zeitwork came up as the brands leading light with four prizes including the prestigious ‘Red Dot Design Award’. It is the award for the product design category. The unique feature of the timepiece is its numerals that are obscured behind the dial for most of the day but can be charged through the dial’s semi-transparent, UV-permeable coating. The watch was launched over a year ago and is still receiving awards which total twelve by now.
Another top performer in the Lange portfolio was the Tourbograph “Pour le Mérite”which won awards at both the Vienna Time and Munich Time shows. Produced in a new, harder gold alloy, it was among the top three watches in the “Complicated Mechanism” category. Another winner for them was the Saxonia Annual Calendar that cornered the award in the ‘Classical Elegance’ category with both the public and expert juries.

Romain Jerome Titanic-DNA Tourbillon Steampunk (RJ Steampunk) - - Limited Edition Luxury Watch With Only 2012 Pieces
Romain Jerome, the luxury watchmaker has done it again. Their limited edition Romain Jerome Titanic-DNA Tourbillon Steampunk A la Grande was a grand success. They have just unveiled a follow up creation the RJ Steampunk. The new creations powerful design comes through polished steel paws, pistons and large Roman numerals. There are some differences in style from the Titanic watch but the basic difference this time is that RJ Steampunk uses a movement without a tourbillon.
The case of the Steampunk is large. The case is 50mm wide and the bezel is oxidized metal. The mechanism that looks very complicated and elaborate is held in place by four screwed-down pistons, which symbolize the RJ’s signature “X” motif. The screws go deep into the dial. The screws have been made so prominent and visible because they resemble steam engine pistons.
Romain Jerome is keeping the mechanisms simple and stressing more on design. The RJ Steampunk is basically a variation on the Titanic theme but has been very well executed. The final pricing for the new watch has not been declared but it should be lower than the Titanic due to the absence of a tourbillion. Only 2,012 pieces of RJ Stempunk will go into production.

Early 17th Century Pocket Watch in Good Condition - - Available on the James List for About $78,000
A 17th century pocket watch made in France has become available on the James List. For a watch made in1625 it is in surprisingly good condition. This is a watch made before the advent of the balance spring which made the watches more accurate. This watch could almost tell you the history of watch making. It was made at a time when watches had only one hour hand.
The watches made at the time were not very reliable as timing instruments but more an item of class and esteem for the very rich. The emphasis, at that time was on decoration and craftsmanship and not on accuracy. This particular piece as you can see in the photograph has some very elaborate ornamental work on the dial. This particular piece also has some sort of an alarm and the hour striking system.
This beautiful example of witch making from the early 17th century is signed by Josias Jolly, who was a watch maker in Paris. Though inaccurate the watch has a complex mechanism. It uses a small chain connected to the main spring barrel. It is rare to get a watch from that period in good condition. It is available on the James List for about $78,000.

Gravity and Mercury: Two New Designs Launched by Ziiiro - - With No Hands and Marking Its Way Beyond Traditional Watch
Ziiiro, the watch manufacturing company has designed two watches that look like a watch only in its form. Dial is not at all like a traditional watch as it is free of hands or any other traditional markings. The design is a new concept that uses the constantly changing interaction of two rings to indicate the time at a given moment. Ziiiro has named the new designs Gravity and Mercury.
Out of the two rings on the dial of the watch, the inner ring represents the hour, while the outer ring represents the minute through a continuous gradient movement. The strap that comes with the Gravity watch is made from a unique combination of silicon and metal that actually makes it a flexible band. The strap is available in six colors and the watch can be removed and set on different straps to suit your mood or dress.
Mercury also has the same clock face as the gravity, though it does not have the option of interchangeable straps. The watch is available in four color combinations – black metal and magenta, black metal and blue, chrome and magenta and lastly chrome and blue. Mercury comes with a 24mm stainless steel mesh band.

Trendy Bluetooth Watch From Fossils - - Let You Connect With Your Own Smartphone Via Bluetooth
Here we bring a trendy watch for you that can be a cool gadget, especially for the owners of a Samrtphone. Be honest, how many times a day do you pull out your phone to see if you’ve gotten a new email, text, etc? Sure, your phone likely alerts you with some sort of sound for each of these, but sometimes you don’t hear it. Other times you might intentionally silence it due to a meeting, or any number of other situations. So wouldn’t it be great if there were an easier (and more discreet) way of checking your phone? The people at Fossil are working on one.
Yes, Fossil, the company known for making watches. They are hard at work crafting a watch that talks to your phone via Bluetooth, and lets you know a variety of useful information. This includes incoming calls, texts, email and more. The watch is expected to fetch a price of around $200 when it launches later this year. Would you shell out that kind of money for a watch that’s connected to your smartphone?
