If you've ever fought to store your bike in a hallway, on a train, or anywhere where space is at a premium, you've probably cursed your handlebars. So necessary while in motion, on a parked bike they turn out to be remarkably cumbersome, sticking out as they do. But a new design, the Flipphandle, does what its name says: it allows you to turn the handlebars 90° to line up with the frame, without turning the front wheel. Problem solved.

We've featured a lot of clever ways to store bikes, from a shelf that holds books and bikes to a system that puts the bike at the top of a light pole, to making robots do all the work. These ideas all work to mitigate the cumbersome nature of a parked bike, but the Flipphandle is the first design (apart from folding bikes) that makes the bike itself easier to store.

Designed by Alejandro Lacreu, the Flipphandle, which on its own looks resembles the hilt of a lightsaber, replaces the handlebar stem and can be installed on any bike. Check out the promotional video:

But while the Flipphandle is ready for production, it needs to raise capital before it can hit stores. So check out their Kickstarter campaign- a $75 donation will get you your own Flipphandle, and get rid of your bike storage problems.

Are you the kind of person that loves to go hiking, but gets bored by the time you get to the top? After all, going down is generally easier than climbing up, so what’s the fun in the return trip? One company thinks that the solution to this is to bike downhill. Of course, to do this you’ll need a bike that’s compact and light enough to be carried all the way to the top. That bike is the Bergmönch.

This strange bike (if you can call it that, as it doesn’t appear to have any pedals) folds up and is attached to a backpack, which you will carry with you. This frees up your hands and feet for doing all of the necessary things that comes with hiking. The company claims that it is “ultra-low weight,” but I couldn’t find any actual numbers to support this. If you relish the idea of carrying a small bike up a mountain, then riding it back down, then such a thing will set you back $2.150.

Wolfgang Baetz of Custom Wolf redesigned the custom-made ‘Scoop’ into an elegant bike, revealing his excellent craftsmanship.

The bike is built around a Moto Martin frame, which has been fitted with a Suzuki 1230cc GSX 1135 motor engine, a Ducati single-sided swing arm and custom-made fenders, exhaust, handlebars and seats. The piece’s unusual paint combination gives it an absolutely fresh look. The design of the Custom Wolf ‘Scoop’ is inspired from old American muscle cars, giving it an overall vintage feel.

Designed for people who love surfing, nature and outdoor life, the E-bike features six lithium batteries that help propel the bike.

The electric batteries are stored in the front frame, which power the bike’s rear wheel. With great weight distribution, the electric bike offers a comfortable way to travel. The fluid form structure of the E-Bike is made from recycled aluminum that can be customized with different colors and devices, like a surfboard holder or bag racks.

The E-bike also features an onboard computer, which can help control the speed of the bike, measures the distance traveled. Moreover, the E-Bike will also include a GPS system and an iPhone holder.

 

"The One": $145,000 Cool Looking Bike Created by Fast Attack AG of Switzerland

We have features quite a few Trendy Bikes here on Trends & Styles 4U. The latest one is from Fast Attack AG of Switzerland—a company who specializes in making custom motorbikes—has created another cool-looking bike called ‘The One.’

The One bike is a lightweight roadster made of titanium, aluminum and carbon fiber, making it a very high-performance motorbike.

The high speed bike consists a Harley Davidson engine, which increases its power to 110hp. This original bike carries a cool price of $145,000 and services for this street-legal bike are available at any Harley Davidson dealer.

YikeBike (Mini-Farthing): Ultra-light Electric Folding Bike - - Will Cost You $3,600 to Contribute Towards a Green Environment

I’m sure readers may have the memory traces about the YikeBike we featured earlier this year. Just to remind you; the carbon fiber folding electric bike weighs in at 10.8 kg (22 lbs) and enjoys a speed of 23 km/hr (14.3 m/hr) with a range of 10 km (6.2 miles) has been designed to dodge traffic jams. The front wheel of the bike measures 20-inches, while the rear measures just 8-inches. 

The ultra-light electric folding bike takes about 20 minutes for an 80 percent charge, while a full charge takes 40 minutes. The YikeBike comes with one charger, one charger cord, a carrying strap and a tool-kit with tire inflation adapter and allen keys.
