High Line Park in New York

The High Line is a 1-mile (1.6 km) New York City linear park built on a 1.45-mile (2.33 km) section of the former elevated New York Central Railroad spur called the West Side Line, which runs along the lower west side of Manhattan; it has been redesigned and planted as an aerial greenway. The High Line Park currently runs from Gansevoort Street, one block below West 12th Street, in the Meatpacking District, up to 30th Street, through the neighborhood of Chelsea to the West Side Yard, near the Javits Convention Center.

The recycling of the railway into an urban park has spurred real estate development in the neighborhoods which lie along the line. 25 more images after the break...

The Art Of Coloring Of Vintage Pictures

After the invention of photography it became clear that its main problem is lack of colors. So masters who coul colorize photos for exhibitions and print publications were found really quickly. The history of this craft, that became a high art, deserves a separate large study. Since colored photography was invented people colorize only history photos to "bring" them to a modern audience, enhance the sense of reality. In spite of all the "wonders of Photoshop" today, as before, colorizing the picture to full similarity with the color photography is almost impossible. But some virtuosos are sometimes almost succeed.

Pictures of Bottle Caps

American artist began painting at the age of thirty years and is a self-taught. Almost ten years have seen a case, which defined the main direction of her work for years to come. Molly Bee Wright (Molly B. Right) was born in North Carolina, but in the age of six moved to Charleston in South Carolina. Live and work here so far. One day, Molly drew the attention of the rusting iron sheet. The artist decided to use it to create a picture, but as a halo for copies of the "Shroud of Turin," she decided to use the bottle caps. The idea is very pleased and the next year Molly has created several works consisting entirely of covers. On one such artist in mosaic leaves from three to seven thousand caps. Soldier and Puppy

 Justin Rollins fought in Iraq. In March 2007, he was killed in battle. A friend of Justin's family sent a letter with photos Rollins with a puppy, made shortly before his death. The family decided that the puppy has to live with them. 400000 Black Balls Save L.A. Reservoir From Carcinogen

 The Department of Water and Power workers in Los Angeles, as well as local officials and community activists opened a white tub from where they poured 400,000 black colored balls into the water. So, the question is: was this an artwork, some kind of statement or attempt to pollute the water? The answer on all fronts is no – absolutely and categorically no. In fact, it is an action intended to protect the quality of L.A. drinking water and preventing it from becoming a health hazard. The water needs to be protected and in the shade because of its composition of bromate and chlorine – if exposed to large amounts of sunlight, it could cause a chemical reaction and in high levels can cause cancer. Last year, abnormally high levels of bromide were signaled, but specialists claimed that danger levels were low because people had to drink the water for a lifetime - even so, the chances of contracting cancer were minimal.

Memorial Name: LAX “Recovering Equilibrium”

“Recovering Equilibrium” was funded by Los Angeles World Airports, which oversees airports in the city, at a cost $75,000. LAX was the destination for three of the four planes involved in the tragedy.

The 15–foot-diameter, rotating mirror floats above a concrete basin filled with water, where virtues such as forgiveness are inscribed in different languages, representing collective American citizenry.
